The Yukon – Canada

The Yukon takes its name from Yu-kun-ah, the Loucheux word for the Yukon River, the ‘great river’ that drains most of the territory. Some five per cent of Canada’s landmass, the Yukon lies in the northwest corner of Canada. Bordered on three sides by rugged mountains and on the 4th by the Arctic Ocean, it shares many of the characteristics of its neighbours, Alaska, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. Toronto is Canada’s boldest metropolis, where the world is available at the cost of a subway token and tolerance is reigning virtue. Toronto itself was once under the waters of Lake Iroquois. Today the modern city sits beside Lake Ontario, part of the chain of Great Lakes shared between Canada and US.
Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, with about 36 percent of its population comprising visible minorities. The remainder of the population is of European origin, chiefly of British, Irish, French, Italian and Portuguese descent. More >
