Ants are the ultimate social insects, and comprise the only family of Hymenoptera that is entirely social. With the exception of those species that have abandoned their social skills in favour of permanent nest parasitism, ants form colonies that have a division of labour, with some individuals specialized for reproduction and others devoted to care of the colony.
