Mountains
Guadalupe Mountains – Western Texas
Jan 3rd
Like the prow of a gallant ship, El Capitan, southern bluff of the Guadalupe Mountains, seems to cut through waves of gleaming gypsum sands. It is a moment to remember, that first glimpse of the massive escarpment rising 5,000 feet above the sere Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas. More >

Fly over the Himalayas
Dec 13th
The Himalayan Mountains are the highest in the world. Of the thirty one summits over 7,600 m (25,000 ft), 22 rise in Nepal, including Everest and seven other great giants that are over 8,000 m (26,000 ft). If you have limited time here but still wish to see some of the highest peaks and do a little trekking, one option is to fake the mountain flight from Pokhara to Jomson, where you can take a short trek into the Annapurnas. Mount Tongariro
Oct 3rd
The multi-coloured lunar-like volcanic massif of Tongariro, on New Zealand’s North Island, is both otherworldly and spectacular. A toxic, turquoise mountain lake surrounded by decaying, sand-hued decaying mounds, the Tongariro massif comprises several volcanic cones, rising to a peak elevation of 1,968 metres.
The centre is surrounded by an extensive ring plain made of stream, debris flow, lahars, lava, and ash-flow deposits. As a result, the land combines remarkable contrasts of barren lava flows, winter snowfields, hot springs, and active craters. The varied vegetation looks pre-historic; no one quite understands how it manages to eke out an existence on the poor soil. More >
Mount Kilimanjaro – Tanzania
Aug 4th
Set in the national park of the same name in north-eastern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant stratovolcano, is the highest mountain in Africa. Gases still rise from fumaroles in Kibo crater and scientists estimate that there is a pool of magma only 400 metre (1,300 feet) below the 2.4-km (1.5-mile) diameter crater. At 5,895 metres (19,340 feet), Kibo is the youngest and highest of the three volcanic cones.
Despite its position near the equator and the residual warmth from the last eruption, Kibo is so high that its peak, Uhuru, remains covered in snow all year, although the amount of snow and ice is less and less year by year on average and the glaciers are retreating rapidly. More >
